Hi all :)
Well went to my Audiologist the other day and heard some great news!!! She told me that i detect and hear sounds at the same range as normal hearing people do! I still rely heavy on lipreading (and probably will always have to) but finally the sounds that i hear coming out peoples mouths arent sounds, but words and i can even catch a few here and there without lipreading :)
Well i met one of my goals for this CI and that was to get my music back :) now next goal is to be able to carry a conversation on the phone or Ventrillo while playing World of Warcraft.
I came a looong way in 4-5 month since activation day and i know that i still have a long way to go. This has got to be one of my favorite adventures in my life :)

Hello again :)
Hi, its been awhile (again hehe)
Well things sure are looking great for me :)...listening to alot more music, even learning songs i didnt know before! Also I play World of Warcraft a lot and lately I have been hopping on Ventrillo (where u can talk to other ppl via mic and headset) and although i dont usually understand everything that is being said in vent i have been able to hear some words and short sentences! So my hearing progress is getting better and improving :). I cant wait til i can actually carry a conversation with some friends in vent or even on the phone. Getting a bit impatient lol but i know it all takes time. Got another meeting with my audi coming up next week so i'll blog about that later :)
Later all, remember to SMILE!!

Its been awhile
Hi, I'm really bad at keeping things up-to-date :P
Anyhow...this training with my CI is a long road but sure does have its rewards :)
I'm hearing environmental sounds i have never heard b4, dogs nails clicking on hallway floor and I'm like 10 feet from her!, water dripping in pipes (don't care for that lol), rain falling :) beautiful sound! And so much more....but...my latest is I'm now listening to old music i used to know thru my wire from CI to mp3 player...I got some music back! I'm listening and following along to alot of songs, singing off key and crying :)
Voices are still very hard for me to understand but its slowly getting better :)
Well just a little update :)
Happy Holidays all!

1st Mapping
Hi guys :)
Got my 1st mapping yesterday, it went better then I thought it would! Still have the buzzing but now alot of things don't ding as much. Voices kinda sound like mickey mouse on helium lmao! And I was so happy when i didn't feel the beeps in my forehead like the activation day, that was a bit annoying, hearing a beep and having that twitch, but yesterday that was all gone :)
My audie told me that i did a big turn around since the activation date, the lil "tests" she gave me by reading words to me so i know how they sound then repeating 1 back to me behind her lil "barrier" i got them all right but i think 2, so recognizing the syllables for the most part :)
OH! when the appt was over i walked outside and it was raining lightly, I heard the lil crackling sounds from the rain hitting the pavement!!! i was sooo amazed. I stood out there for a few minutes "soaking" up the sound. Then on the drive home, normally traffic sounds all blend together for me, but yesterday i actually heard the WOOOOOSSSH sound of cars passing by, trucks being even louder lol.
My son who just turned 5 was happy too, he is used to tapping me to get my attention, well at the office he was behind me he said something..what i'm not sure, I turned around and smiled at him and he said "You hear(ed) me!" I replied its heard not hear(ed) and yes i heard u but what is it that you said?" He just beamed at me :) He kinda understands that that i don't yet understand what it is I hear but that i'm starting to react to noises now. Man aren't kids the greatest?!! :) So of course he's been "testing" me off and on lol.

HI! Welcome :)
Hello :) Welcome to my blog.
This is very new to me lol, but decided to give it a try. So here goes....
My name is Donna, I have been deaf since i was about 5 months old due to spinal meningitis, got by fine with hearing aids most of my life, but recently got implanted with a cochlear implant and just got it turned on the 7th of Oct. This is a very trying time for me lol. I got implanted in the ear I was completely deaf in since the meningitis so right now the implant is basically stimulating the nerves and waking them up....its loud, buzzing and annoying! But in time I hope to hear well with it minus the buzzing lol.
I have not really learned any sign language growing up and am recently really interested in learning ASL, I didn't grow up in a deaf community, only met a few deaf people in my life, so I guess i had no need back then to learn ASL. Besides my mom was told when i was a little girl that for me to learn ASL i would not rely on my hearing aids and wouldn't get the most out of it. Back then some deaf people in the hearing society weren't really "allow" (lack of a better word) to be deaf, they had to function like a normal hearing person as best as they can. I do not agree with this, my mom doesn't now either. But she was for a long time a single mom raising me as best as she could, she is my hero and taught me the more vital and important things in life that I am now trying hard to pass on to my children. I actually enjoy being deaf :D and I know my kids do at times too lol!
Ok enough for now, just wanted to get a lil thing started and see where this goes :)
