Hello :) Welcome to my blog.
This is very new to me lol, but decided to give it a try. So here goes....
My name is Donna, I have been deaf since i was about 5 months old due to spinal meningitis, got by fine with hearing aids most of my life, but recently got implanted with a cochlear implant and just got it turned on the 7th of Oct. This is a very trying time for me lol. I got implanted in the ear I was completely deaf in since the meningitis so right now the implant is basically stimulating the nerves and waking them up....its loud, buzzing and annoying! But in time I hope to hear well with it minus the buzzing lol.
I have not really learned any sign language growing up and am recently really interested in learning ASL, I didn't grow up in a deaf community, only met a few deaf people in my life, so I guess i had no need back then to learn ASL. Besides my mom was told when i was a little girl that for me to learn ASL i would not rely on my hearing aids and wouldn't get the most out of it. Back then some deaf people in the hearing society weren't really "allow" (lack of a better word) to be deaf, they had to function like a normal hearing person as best as they can. I do not agree with this, my mom doesn't now either. But she was for a long time a single mom raising me as best as she could, she is my hero and taught me the more vital and important things in life that I am now trying hard to pass on to my children. I actually enjoy being deaf :D and I know my kids do at times too lol!
Ok enough for now, just wanted to get a lil thing started and see where this goes :)

Hi my loving daughter,,,,i thank you for your kind, loving words,,,but you also taught me so much in life,,,PATIENCE is just one of them lol. I also enjoyed being your MOM,,,,it was fun most of the time,,,like the time you came home & signed F.U. to me when you were in the 4th grade,,,lol. Being deaf for you was never a "handi-cap. WE wouldn't let it & you did just fine I think lol.Thank you for passing life's lessons on to your children as well as others,,,,that is such an Honor,,,,I love you more than all the snow flakes there ever were or ever will be, & as far as i know that is equal to all the rain drops,,,the rain forest mass equals about the same as all the other frozen places that get snow :) Love you Mom Talking Goose
Cool, blog, berge!
Don't worry about ASL because you are just getting to know us in Geo's site. You'll learn ASL in no time.
Your mom sounds a cool and awesome lady!
Misha :D
I started out the same way, but not with cochlear implant. I started out with SEE, evolved into PSE until I graduated from hearing high school. I started to learn ASL when I went to RIT in Rochester, NY. That language is a big and different world. Very pictorial, breaking grammar into decor and extremely expressive. I continue to learn more about ASL and I am sure you will find it as a wonderful language to use amongst deaf culture.
Whoohoo!! Your first blog!! YAY!! It is looking good..
Ok.. As for learning ASL, just go with the flow. From what I seen your vlog. You did so WONDERFUL! I applaud you for trying. I didn't learn ASL til I was 15 yrs old at a deaf school. I grew up oralist then learning how to sign at teenager. :)
